Medical Consultation

I offer face to face, Video and Telephone consultations. Patients from out of area often book to see me. I am more than happy to arrange a Video or telephone consultation if it is convenient for you. However, if you also need an examination and / or ultrasound scan, you will need to book a face to face appointment. For those who do not need ultrasound scan or once the initial examination and ultrasound scans have been performed or you have already had these done elsewhere, Video or telephone consultation may be more suitable.

Medical consultation involves detailed exploration of your concerns and problems to help me to identify the reasons for your concerns. This involves face to face consultation and examination to arrive at a diagnosis or to plan the management. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a member of staff who will accompany you to the consultation room. You will have face to face consultation. You are welcome to bring your partner, family member, friend or anyone with you for the consultation. Consultation involves detailed exploration of your concerns. This involves your previous medical/gynaecology history, medications, surgeries and family history. It will be useful if you can bring any previous consultation letters, surgery details or GP referral letters. It is recommended to get a referral letter from your GP before consultation. This helps me to identify your previous medical history and treatments received. However, I am happy to see you without your GP referral. If you have private health insurance, it is important to check your insurance policy regarding private consultations as many policies require a GP referral for authorisation of payment. Following consultation, I may have to examine you. This involves abdominal (tummy) and possible internal vaginal examination (depending on your concerns). A female nursing staff will be present throughout the examination. After the examination, I will discuss my findings and recommend further management options. If you also require an ultrasound scan, I may be able to preform this on the same day. This is only possible if you indicated this to my secretary when you make an appointment to see me as you will then need a longer appointment time and booking the scan room. You will also have to confirm this with your insurers beforehand with an authorisation number whether they will cover for your ultrasound scan.

Normally I will be able to see you for initial consultation within few days. There may be a possibility to see you on the same day or the following day, depending on my availability. If you prefer an urgent appointment, please speak to my secretary. They may be able to arrange one in short notice.

I run a dedicated early pregnancy / recurrent miscarriage clinic for couples at the Bridge Clinic, Maidenhead in a homely and confidential environment. This is a one stop clinic where I consult, perform ultrasound scan and do other investigations (if needed) at the same visit to arrive at a diagnosis on the same day. I also run a one stop Gynaecology and well women clinics where I consult, examine, perform ultrasound scan (if needed) and other investigations (if needed) to arrive at a diagnosis at the same visit. This is a unique service which is quite popular among women as diagnosis is made at the 1st visit most of the time and thereby reduces the need for further appointments and delay.

How do I pay for my treatment?

Private health insurance-
We will invoice your insurance company directly for payments. You may have to pay any excess depending on your policy terms and conditions. We will invoice you directly for any shortfall (excess) from your insurance policy. All invoices should be settled within 28 days.
Self-funding –
We will invoice you and collect the payment after the consultation. You can pay by credit or debit card. If you wish you can also pay by bank transfer or by cheque. All invoices should be settled within 28 days.

Will my private insurance pay for my investigations?

It depends on your policy terms and conditions. Please read your policy or contact your insurance provider for confirmation.

Are you approved by Insurance companies?

Yes I am recognised by all major health insurance providers. I am a BUPA recognised platinum consultant and one of their open referral network consultants. I am also BUPA fee assured consultant which means my charges are as per BUPA schedule for BUPA patients..

I have private medical insurance, what should I do before consultation?

Please read your insurance policy to confirm you are covered for the consultation and any procedures. You should call your insurance provider to confirm this with an authorisation number. Please contact my secretary on 01628 760060 for any advice and assistance. As most Gynaecology patients need a pelvic ultrasound scan, it is advisable to confirm with your insurer whether pelvic ultrasound scan is also covered by your policy. Most of the insurers authorise an US scan as part of initial gynaecology consultation.

Will you be able to see me at a short notice?

I am very flexible and most of my patients will be seen within few days or within a week. Sometimes, there may be a couple of week delay for appointments. Please contact my secretary for who may be able to help you with early appointment for urgent cases.

Do I need a GP referral letter?

It is recommended to involve your GP and get a referral before consultation. This helps meto identify your previous medical history and treatments received. However this is your choice and I am happy to see you without your GP referral. If you have private health insurance, it is important to check your insurance policy regarding private consultations as many policies require a GP referral for authorisation of payment.

What to expect at the first consultation?

I will go through your concerns and previous medical history. Examination may involve an internal examination depending on your concerns. A female nursing staff will be present and help me during examination. After the examination, I may advise you for further investigations. You may be offered an ultrasound scan at the same visit depending on your condition and examination findings.

What should I bring to my first consultation?

Please bring your GP referral letter if you have one. Please also bring any medical records and correspondence letters with medical professionals and details of any medications you are currently taking. If you have private health insurance, please bring your membership and authorisation numbers.

How do you conduct Video consultation?

When you book for a video consultation, you will receive a link via email. You just have to click the link on any smart phone (apple or android) or on a camera enabled laptop or desktop. Please open the link few minutes earlier in a quite place / room for the consultation.

Can I bring my partner, friend or relative to the consultation?

Yes, you are welcome to bring anyone with you.
